UK tops online usage chart June 11, 2007

The UK has the most active online population, with the highest average number of daily visitors (21.8 million), according to a new review of European internet activity. Other data revealed that the average European accesses the net 16.5 days in a month, and spends 24 hours viewing 2,662 web pages, according to tracking firm comScore.
Internet penetration across Europe was 40% of the population aged 15 and above, with only Spain (39%), Italy (36%) and Russia (11%) falling below this level. At the other end of the scale, the Netherlands (83%) topped the chart for internet penetration, with Norway (70%), Sweden (70%), Denmark (68%) and Finland (65%) all above the UK in sixth with 62%. When broadband goes wrong.. April 30, 2007

A firm of mortgage advisors were forced to take an injunction out against BT last week, when their broadband connection was accidentally cut by BT engineers, who then wouldn’t reconnect it. The County Court granted an emergency injunction forcing BT to re-establish the connection without delay, even though BT had argued it was physically impossible. The company now has it’s broadband back on, but are seeking compensation as they say they have “lost thousands of pounds”.

Industry group warns UK on broadband future April 16, 2007

The Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG) launched a report today on the future of broadband technology in the UK.
Broadband is already the critical enabling infrastructure of our modern, knowledge-based economy and is an integral part of many people’s lives. Next generation broadband is widely regarded as a key enabler for our future economy and is expected to bring significant benefits to the economy including improved (more…)
Consumer Broadband Survey Results March 27, 2007

As mentioned previously, the BBC Watchdog programme recently invited viewers to rate their household broadband provider.
50,000 people rated their broadband provider on customer service, ease of set-up, cancellation, value for money, and reliability of service and the results of that survey are now available here:

Over sixty delegates attended the first in a series of events on 28th February, aimed at helping businesses make the most of technology. The ‘Intelligent Business‘ events series are being run by Junction YK, who have been enlisted by the NWDA. This first event was jointly organised by the guys at MERIT and presented by Anthony Story, director of Junction YK.
